Why Did a Client Who Didn’t Choose SJW the First Time End Up Buying Three Properties Through SJW?

Long-term partnerships are rarely decided by the first transaction. They are built when clients realise that a team truly understands what they are trying to achieve.

This client first approached SJW UK Properties during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, he was based in China and unable to travel to the UK, but he had already begun planning his family’s long-term future in London.

His objective was very clear. He wanted to build a property portfolio that would support his child’s future. One property would eventually become his child’s home while studying and living in London. Three additional properties would be held as long-term investments, generating passive income so that, after graduation, his child would have the freedom to pursue a career based on passion rather than financial pressure.

For him, buying property was never simply about investing in real estate. It was about creating choices for the next generation.

During the pandemic, the SJW Sales team spent considerable time discussing different areas of London, analysing developments, understanding his objectives and explaining how different properties could fit into his long-term plan. At the same time, however, he was also working with another property agent based in China.

Given the travel restrictions, this was entirely understandable.

Without the ability to visit London personally, many decisions had to be made through video calls and online presentations. Having someone physically nearby naturally provided an additional sense of security.

In the end, he purchased his first London property through the agent in China rather than through SJW.

It was a perfectly reasonable decision under the circumstances.

Everything changed after international travel resumed.

Shortly before the completion of his first property, he finally travelled to London. For the first time, he was able to walk around the neighbourhood, experience the local environment and see what everyday life there actually felt like.

The property itself was exactly what he had purchased.

But something did not quite match the picture he had imagined.

That visit prompted him to contact SJW again.

He arranged a meeting with Sally Wang, Founder of SJW UK Properties, at the company’s London office. What followed was a conversation lasting more than an hour.

It was not a typical property consultation.

Very little time was spent discussing individual developments.

Instead, the conversation focused on much bigger questions.

Why invest in London?

What kind of home would genuinely support a child’s future?

How should overseas property fit into a family’s long-term financial planning?

What role should property play in creating financial freedom for the next generation?

During the discussion, he explained the thinking behind his family’s entire strategy.

He hoped his child would eventually build a life in the UK.

He wanted one home where his child could live comfortably.

He also wanted three investment properties that would generate stable passive income, allowing his child, after university, to choose work based on purpose and interest rather than financial necessity.

For him, these four properties represented much more than an investment portfolio.

They represented freedom prepared years in advance.

That conversation became the turning point.

He was not the type of investor who made decisions quickly. He analysed carefully, paid close attention to detail and thought deeply before making any long-term commitment.

What he was really trying to understand was not whether SJW knew the London property market.

He wanted to know whether SJW truly understood his family’s vision.

Could this team translate a long-term life plan into a practical property strategy?

Could they become a trusted partner for the years ahead?

After that meeting, the relationship changed completely.

SJW was no longer simply recommending developments.

The team was helping him build a long-term property portfolio.

During the same visit to London, SJW Sales assisted him in purchasing three additional properties that aligned with his family’s objectives.

Together with the first property he had already purchased, his London portfolio was complete: one future home for his child and three investment properties designed to provide long-term passive income.

Today, the owner-occupied property has become part of his child’s life in London.

The three investment properties are all professionally managed by SJW Property Management.

From tenant sourcing and tenancy management to routine inspections, maintenance coordination and ongoing property care, the entire portfolio is looked after by the same team.

Over the years, the properties have remained well maintained, with reliable tenants and stable management. During regular inspections, the SJW team often finds the homes clean, welcoming and carefully looked after—exactly what every overseas landlord hopes to see.

As the partnership developed, SJW also came to understand the client more deeply.

He is thoughtful, analytical and exceptionally thorough. Every important decision is considered from multiple perspectives. He values logic, pays attention to detail and believes that long-term decisions should never be made based on short-term thinking.

For someone like him, choosing a property adviser is never simply about finding someone who can introduce developments.

It is about finding people who genuinely understand how he thinks and who can help turn long-term family goals into reality.

Looking back today, the most interesting part of this story is not that he eventually purchased three properties through SJW.

Nor is it that SJW Property Management now manages all three of his investment properties.

The most meaningful part is this:

The first time, he did not choose SJW.

Later, after one genuine conversation and a much deeper understanding of each other’s values, he chose to entrust the purchase of the next three properties to SJW Sales, while placing the long-term management of his investment portfolio in the hands of SJW Property Management.

For SJW UK Properties, this story has always carried an important lesson.

A client who does not choose you today has not necessarily rejected you.

Sometimes, they simply need more time.

Sometimes, they need to see the city for themselves.

Sometimes, they need one meaningful conversation before they know who truly understands them.

Long-term partnerships are rarely built on a single transaction.

They are built on shared values, thoughtful advice, consistent execution and the confidence that the same team will continue to stand beside the client for many years after the purchase has been completed.
